Dryer vent for cat pee smell?

I live in a mobile home. During the winter all the strays have decided it would be a good idea to take shelter under my home, using it as a litter box as well. For some reason when I open my dryer, the smell of cat urine seeps out. I don't know where it is coming from in the dryer. My father told me to get an indoor dryer vent kit because it will help eliminate the smell and help heat the house. Can I take this vent off in the summer when it gets too hot in the house?

I would take a different approach, other than calling the animal control people. Many hardware stores, and even mobile home specialty stores sell mobile home "skirting". It would be a barrier from things getting under your home. If you have it already, I would find out where they are getting in, and check there are none under there, and seal it up. The reason I mention this is because if they like the area under there, they are going to start to have kittens, and who knows what kind of problem you are going to have. You can start by putting animal repellent under there, so they won't be so attracted by the warmth.

Do the indoor dryer lint vents really work?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Yes they are fine, just make sure they are always filled with water.

Are indoor dryer vents safe ?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

It all depends if you have a gas or electric dryer.

An electric dryer can be vented inside, but a Gas dryer must be vented outside to prevent Carbon Monoxide from building up in the home. Carbon Monoxide, also called the "silent killer" is produced anytime a gas appliance burns gas to produce heat.

Also, venting inside will cause a high humidity level in the room where the dryer is located, possibly causing damage to walls, and other items in that room.

I have no vent for my dryer what options do I have?

I currently have an indoor tumble dryer kit and it's terrible. I live in a condo and it makes my place a sauna. There is no way to vent it to the outside. Do you know of any other way to vent my dryer? Can I hook it up to a dehumidifier or something? The tumble dry box is a waste. I do not want to buy another dryer even though I know LG sells one with a dehumidifier attached. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Is there access above your condo? You could tie this into the bath vent or directly out through a roof vent.
Don't forget to leave a slight drip loop.
Hope this helps! Mark

Mary asks…

Indoor dryer vents vs outdoor dryer vents?

What's the best?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Outdoor Dryer vents are better for indoor air quality and pose less of a fire hazard. The inside vent helps reduce atmospheric pollution even though it costs less.
