Soap in the carpet, possibly from your carpet cleaning machine, creates a sticky residue that becomes a dirt magnet. A carpet cleaning pro will probably use a hand held tl to completely rinse and extract the residue from the carpet fibers, in the region of this wick up. Certified carpet cleaning experts use a internet site, www.iicrc.org. The pro's at this site are insured, have passed exams, and have to keep up with cleaning education.

The enzyme cleaners your first answerer talks about are great. I'm not particular if you have a re-appearing stain that you can't get rid of, i.e., soaking back thru from underneath or just carpet that shows dirt readily. I'll pass on my trick for cleaning carpet in general but attempt the enzyme cleaners if you have a truly challenging problem.

OK...I'm about to go way out on a limb here. Don't use steam cleaners. Attempt this. Test all chemicals on that inconspicuous spot we all have first*. Go to your local Oreck dealer and rent their orbital machine with nylon brush and plain bonnet. I prefer a worn brush over a new one. Whilst your there, purchase sufficient of their Dry Carpet Cleaner powder. Back home, vacuum thoroughly then vacuum again. Mix a 80-20 mixture of household hydrogen peroxide-orange clean in a spray bottle (no! it won't bleach your carpet*) and "mist" an region say 6 feet square. Run the buffer over this region. Use either the plain bonnet or the brush depending on the rug. Go over the region well. Sprinkle the Oreck powder over the region and run the buffer again. You may have to repeat both actions if things are truly dirty. Move on to a new "dirty" region and repeat process until your carried out. When all is dry, vacuum. Maintain the powder, spray mix and a brush for spot cleaning later.

I have utilized this process several times on 3 different types of carpet, one wool, two synthetic. It probably expenses more than the grocery store steam cleaners but a lot much less than Stanley. I figure about $150 for 2100 sq feet. Single biggest benefit is that you can be back on your clean carpet within an hour if you don't overdo the spray. Further, there is no pad or under layment saturation. Since no detergent was utilized, your carpets will remain cleaner, longer. Hardest part will be locating a buffer if you don't have an Oreck dealer close. This is a fairly heavy unit with a 10"-12" head, not one of those severe, industrial machines for high school hallways. Sears also sells a dry cleaning powder product but I've by no means utilized it.

I've by no means been disappointed with the outcomes.

I do not now nor have I ever worked for Oreck. Your outcomes may vary. Please test that spot prior to you begin and test run the buffer. I have by no means "ripped up" carpet but I am careful around seams.

My technique will not soak the carpet pad, the hardwood or call for some exotic extraction device. You don't require to saturate the carpet. A nice mist, repeated as necessary. The powder absorbs a great deal of the moisture along with residual dirt. That's its purpose.
