Chris asks…

Could I put a vented tumble dryer in a garage (no window but draughty) without the hose going outside?

I want to buy a tumble dryer for the garage but there is no window to put the hose out of and I dont want to drill a hole in the wall. Condenser dryers seem an expensive option and I would't have thought it would create that much condensation. Or would it?!

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Yep

Just creates warm damp air, that's all

Sandy asks…

Dryer Vented to the roof, water builds up in exhaust hose?

The facility I work for has a dryer vented to the roof. Even when it hasn't rained or snowed, water builds up in the exaust hose. I have disconnected the hose several times(approx. every two weeks) and emptied 2 quarts of water each time. This significatlly decreases drying time, but when we finally got someone to come check it, they shortened the hose, and clamped it on so it can't be removed without tools. Dryer was taking forever again so I felt the hose and I can feel there is alot of water, but now I can't remove it to empty it. Is there anything that can be done to decrease the water that condenses in there? Remodeling is not an option, so it has to stay vented to the roof. Also, ideas that don't require a lot of money are greatly appreciated, I work for a non-profit organization. Even better if it is a fix that I can do myself!
As I mentioned before, remodeling is Not an option.

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

First make sure the vent has the proper cap on it to prevent rain water from getting down the vent. The other place where water will get in is condensation inside the vent from the dryer exhaust (remember it is warm moist air from drying the clothes). You can help limit the condensation if you can insulate the vent stack. They make fiberglass wrap insulation that should be fairly easy to install. A final solution you can try is to make a small hole in the bottom of the pipe (or flexible hose) where any condensation can drain out. You may need to put a pan or bucket under it and check it as needed to empty it before it overflows.

David asks…

How far can I take a bathroom vent to an exterior wall?

I have a half bath with no exterior wall, how far can I run a flex hose from a vent to an exterior wall? I could run it over the furnace, past the washer and dryer, which are enclosed in a bifold door closet off the kitchen and outside via the same wall the dryer is vented to.

This would be about 20 feet - is that too far to go? The other option would be to vent it to the crawl space but that would mean removing part of a wall and redrywalling to do that, I can do that but would prefer a simpler way - its a town house so only 2 exterior walls to work with, and only one that is a viable option

Humidity isnt a problem, the cats litter box is the problem - thanks
Scooping it several times a day does not solve the immediate odor problem when he uses it
This bathroom is on the main floor, another floor above it, sigh, so roof is no option either and neither is getting rid of the cat

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

I just installed one with a 2.5 foot length of flex tube to my roof. But if you have to install vent tubing that far I would suggest using solid aluminum tubing with as little bending as possible. The cheap acordian tubing would create way to much turbulance and render the fan very in effective. If you use solid tubing you would also be free to install a 3" inline fan down stream of the main bathroom fan on the same circuit for maximum effeciency.

Sharon asks…

Do those condenser boxes really work on dryers?

Have you ever used an external condenser box on your dryer?

The kind that you put on the end of the vent hose, so that you don't have to put it out the window, or pipe, and it condenses and collects the water.

Our condenser dryer died, and it is less expensive to buy a normal one, and I saw the option of using those boxes, but I have a feeling they don't work.
Like this for instance

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

I have a dryer with the box to collect the water build in it. You just take it out to empty when is full there is no need for any pipes it is excellent.

Mandy asks…

Question about window air conditioner?

My parents are making me take it out of my window, do to a monsoon that is here. What I want to do is, get some dryer hose and attach it to the back of my a/c, and vent the hose outside. This way I can leave the window a/c inside my room all the way, and vent the heat it makes outside. I know that this isn't good for the a/c, since it has to work harder to push the air through the little hose, but the hose will only be 3 ft long at the maximum. So can I do this? The hose is going to be very short. This is my ONLY option. So please just tell me if its safe to do this. Im not going to leave it on when im not in the room. And I only run the thing for 1 hour per day.

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

No problem but you will need to make a metal transition . A box the size of the coils on the back, 5 " deep with a three " hole cut in it for your 3" pipe take off .You could make it out of card board but when it gets wet it will fall apart. Plus you need to run a drain line .

How to remove carpet spill oder?

I left a cup of orange juice on my carpet and forgot about it,like a week later i found it had fell over and hiding under a shirt. It smells horrible,i tryed cleaning it with resolve carpet cleaner, still smells, any ideas?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Spray the spot with white vinegar, let it sit for a while then shampoo the area , you can also deodorize your whole carpet by sprinkling Baking Soda before vacuuming and open the windows to let fresh air come in the room.

Merry Christmas

David asks…

How do you get the smell of vomit out of carpet?

Ugh, one of my poor babies is sick and threw up yesterday on our carpet. I cleaned it as best I could immediately after with water, and later with Resolve carpet cleaner. Now my house smells like chemicals and vomit. Today I re-cleaned the area with a sponge and water, but it still smells. This is an area rug, so I can lift it up to clean the underside of the rug and the carpet pad. That's my plan, but I figured I'd see if there was some secret method someone knew I could try!

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

You can get this in most pet shops. It's typically used to clean up cat urine - so it'll do a great job on most any biological mess. It's mostly natural enzymes and plant extracts, which is nice if you have kids or animals to worry about. It will penetrate into the carpet padding if you apply it correctly without having to lift the carpet. It can take a little while to work fully, but it does do an awesome job.

Daniel asks…

What's the best way to get cat urine smell out of carpet? I'm at wits end. Any secret tricks out there?

Tried steam cleaning, carpet cleaning products such as Resolve, Woolite Carpet, etc... Nothing will remove it! I'm consumed by this smell. Help!!!!

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Go to a 99 cent store and buy a product called "Awesome".... (clear bottle, yellow liquid).

Boil water on the stove for use in a carpet cleaner (the hot water opens the carpet fibers to allow for thorough cleaning). Clean the snot out of the area.

Another product that works very well (far more expensive though, but affordable) is SpotShot. Both are enzyme cleaners and that's the only thing which will neutralize the urine to remove the odor. Good Luck.

Sandra asks…

How to get fish oil smell out of carpet?

My dog chewed up a bottle of fish oil capsules on the carpet and now the whole room reeks. I've tried cleaning it with both vinegar and Resolve cleaner, but haven't had any luck removing the smell. Any tips?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

You can sprinkle it with baking soda, which will absorb any oil and also smell. Then you can use carpet fresh, to remove any smell which may be leftover.

Steven asks…

Help! my dog vomited on the back seat of my car,(fabric),how do i get the smell out?

my dog vomited last night in my car. and it very hot outside,i cleaned as best as i could last night, this morning i had to run an errand ,....and the stinch was horrible! i used an all purpose cleaner this morning , along with resolve carpet cleaner, and pet fresh...any suggestions on how to relieve the nasty smell??my husband uses the car everyday..and we dont want it to smell...any sugesstions would be helpful... thank you

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Febreeze is a good idea- I'd also try baking powder. It took the cat pee smell out of my couch when one of cats was telling me he didn't feel good. I sprinkled it on the couch and let lay there overnight. Next day I vacuumed it up and the difference in smell was incredible! A mixture of one part vinegar to ten parts water also works fantastically and doesn't leave it's own grubby smell.

Helen asks…

FireFox?????

okay so i downloaded firefox. i've been using firefox for a while, and all a sudden when i x'ed out my firefox and opened it again it wont go to websites, it wont even say page not displayed. it will just be blank. so i unstalled it and re stalled it and it worked when it was launched from the reinstal but when i x'ed it out again and opened it it showed blank. does anyone know how i can fix this????

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Mine alwayz goes
Page cannot be displayed it took to long to load
ALOT!
But its better than Explorer!

Richard asks…

FireFoX????????

I always hear that Fire fox is better than Internet Explorer and its faster safer ect....But what are the bad things about firefox?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

I really don't know of any bad things, since it's open source. The only complaints I have are that cut and paste could be done a little better; and it should allow shortcuts like Internet Explorer. I really don't like bookmarks.

On the plus side of things, it allows Java and Javascript.

Microsoft tried to set the standard for both programming languages, but Sun Microsystems wouldn't put up with any of that, so Microsoft purposely crippled all future versions of it's browser - and as a result - Internet Explorer will no longer enable Java or JavaScript. Also, Dynamic HTML is disabled. That was supposed to be one of the next steps, in the evolution of the internet.

Microsoft and it's monoploy have done more to cripple the internet, than all of the spammers, virus writers, adware / malware writers, software pirates, and hackers combined.

Daniel asks…

FIREFOX...?

I have asked several questions, and many of the replies suggest that I consider FIREFOX. I'm not sure what it is - probably a browser. Is it similar to Netscape and Internet Explorer? What are its good features and its bad features?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Firefox IS a browser, published by Mozilla, that has been competing with Internet Explorer for the past couple years. It's actually a pretty cool browser that has turned out to nab more of the market than I think most people anticipated.

Good features:
Great pop-up and spyware protection. This is also partly due to the fact that the vast majority of viruses and spyware are written FOR Explorer, which most people are running.
Probably the best feature of Firefox is tabbed browsing, which opens up multiple windows within a single window so that your taskbar doesn't get crowded with all of the webpages you're navigating between.
Also, from their website...I think this is pretty cool: "Firefox 1.5 delivers easier navigation for everyone, including those who are visually or motor-impaired. Firefox is the first browser to support DHTML accessibility, which, when enabled by Web authors, allows rich Web applications to be read aloud."

Bad features:
The only one so far is that since most webpages are meant to be viewed with Explorer, I had limited accessibility to some web applications. For example, when Yahoo! Introduced PhotoMail, I wasn't able to download the upgraded e-mail application because the service was built for certain versions of Explorer only. But as Firefox gets more popular (they just released an upgrade) I expect this to happen less.

So the people recommending this browser were absolutely correct! I have used it for almost a year now and love it.

How do i clean the out vent from the dryer on a two story house?

It seems to be clogged and I don't' how! This is the vent in the wall it goes up from the garage to the attic not sure to call a plumber, or a duct cleaner? or can we do it ourselves?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Charles asks…

How much should I expect to pay to have my dryer vent professionally cleaned?

I live in a one family house with a dryer in the basement. Someone quoted me a fee of $75 to $100 for them to clean my vent, come into the basement and clean the dryer and vacuum all around it. Is this a competitive price? Thanks!
Thanks everyone! Unfortunately I'm not handy and don't own a leaf blower or a shop vac, so this is something I will need to pay for even though I don't have lots of money to throw around. If anyone else has an answer on whether it's a good price or not, that would be helpful, since I have to pay for it. Thx!

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

It seems like you are avoiding the DIY route. Depending on how it is run, a pro may be appropriate. The price is pretty reasonable as long as the work is done right. I am assuming this price includes cleaning the entire duct from the dryer to the outside.

Steven asks…

How do you clean and/or inspect a dryer vent that is vented up through the roof of a house? I think it runs...

through the attic?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

We had the same problem a few years ago and here is what I suggest. Lowe's or Home Depot sells a vent cleaner that is basically a big bottle brush pipe cleaner on one end attached to a long sturdy metal "hose", for lack of better words. It works just like the tool plumbers call a "snake" when your pipes are clogged.

What you want to do is actually attack this from both points of entry and exit. Begin from where the dryer vent connects to the wall vent and stick the cleaner up in there as far as it can go and work in a back and forth motion, pulling the cleaner out periodically to get the lint out of the vent. When you feel you've cleaned as much as possible, continue the attack from the roof, if you can. This way, you can do the same process, but push down the lint to the wall vent entry. After you've done this, then go back to the wall vent entry and repeat the first step. This way, you can be assured most of the lint is cleaned.

It's VERY important to keep these types of vents clean because they tend to accumulate more lint then vents that go outside to the side of the house. This can lead to a potential fire hazard.

Here's a kit they sell on Amazon.com

http://www.amazon.com/Linteater-System-And-Extension-Kit/dp/B000CPKKQM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1211479183&sr=1-3

Thomas asks…

Is it my landlord's responsibility to get the dryer vent cleaned, or do I have to pay for it?

We've been living here for almost three years. The lease says-"The lessee shall make all required repairs to the plumbing, range, heating apparatus, and electric and gas fixtures whenever damage thereto shall have resulted from Lessee's misuse, waste, or neglect. Major maintenance and repair of the leased premises, not due to Lessee's misuse, waster, or neglect shall be the responsibility of Lessor or his assigns." There is a maintenance man who takes care of all the townhouses in our section, but I'm not sure if this is something he can take care of, or if someone would have to be hired to do it.

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

It is a fire hazard. Ask nicely if they can clean it out no matter what the lease states. Its easy to clean and in there best interest. Or just make nice with the maintenance guy. Buy him lunch if he will fix it for you.

Betty asks…

My dryer vent hose has a hole the size of a quarter. Can I use duct tape to repair this? Any fire risk?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

You can try duct tape but, contrary to the name, duct tape doesn't do well with the humid heat in ducts. You'll probably find the tape will lose it's adhesive qualities and fall off after a few uses. Better off replacing it.

Donald asks…

Can hose from washer and vent from dryer go straight up?

The only place I have for a washer and dryer is in my basement, but since the basement is fully below ground the water hose would have to go straight up and same with the dryer vent hose. A friend told me this wouldn't work because the gravity wouldn't allow things to go straight up like that. I thought basements were a common place for washer and dryer though, and I can't be the only one with this situation. Is my friend full of you-know-what?
From a couple of your answers, it sounds like I'm ok. There IS pipe that goes out to the sewer that comes down about 6 inches lower than my basement ceiling, which is only about 7 feet. Since the pipe comes out of the washer about midway up, the distance up to that pipe is probably less than the 6'6" height referenced as the maximum. My friend had made me think it had to be level or have a downward slope from the machine...no "upward" movement at all. Sounds like maybe thaty was a crock after all :)

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

If your basement was plumbed for a washer/dryer, then it should have been equipped with a pump to carry the water up to the main pipe.
If not, you might consider installing one.
The dryer vent should be okay. You'd just have to make sure to clean out the vent regularly because of lint build-up. When you have a long vertical run on your vent pipe, you'll get hot air meeting cold air, and that creates condensation. Add to that the lint from the dryer, and you get an obstruction that can be a fire hazard.

Charles asks…

Should a contractor be responsible for allotting for the space for the hose and vent for a washer and dryer?

I provided a contractor with the dimensions for my new washer and dryer prior to his constructing my laundry room. He built the laundry room based on the dimensions provided by Whirlpool; however he did not allow room for the hose for the washer and the venting for the dryer. He is now saying that Whirlpool or myself should have included the measurements or a cut out for the hose and vent. Consequently, he wants to cut out spaces for the vent and hose as he built them based on the dimensions provided by Whirlpool and that legally, he does not have to knock down the wall and rebuild. I think as a professional he should have allotted for the hose and vent. At the cost of $35,000 for a remodeling project and an error on his behalf; I feel he should be responsible for tearing down the wall and rebuild. HELP I HAVE ENTERED INTO CONTRACT HELL!

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Our opinions are just that. I agree with you that the contractor should have allowed the extra space but I don't think it will matter. You may have to take him to court and let the judge decide.

Daniel asks…

How do you fix the clothes dryer vent?

I have aluminum coiled dryer vent hose, I tore off the outside shield of the vent, now I don't know how to repair it so there will be no "wild life" to get in, and no snow or ice to ruin the pipes, what would you recommend?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Go to your home improvement store and get a dryer vent cap. They make several styles. Most will slip right into the existing hole and connect up your hose. Make sure to get the same diameter most are 4"

I accidentally sprayed my tomato and zucchini plants with resolve carpet cleaner!?

I thought it was the plant spray...boohoohoo! Right after I did it, I rinsed off leaves with water four times over and drained the reservoir each time (these are potted plants). Is there any hope of them surviving? Will it be unsafe to consume their fruit now? I have a fan on them to help the leaves dry faster. I plan to keep watering them all day to try to flush out the chemicals from the soil...any advice much appreciated!

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Your fine and the plants probably will be too. Quick thinking. Here's the MSDS or material safety data sheet for resolve. You can see it's active ingredients are alcohols. Nothing that would poison the plants or the fruit.

Sharon asks…

I want to clean my couch, it's microfiber, can I use Resolve Carpet Cleaner?

The back doesnt mention apholstry at all, can I use it?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Check the tag for a cleaning code, some fabrics you can only use solvents, some you can use water based. My microfiber can use both, so I have used Woolite, and I bought a microfiber cleaner from the company that treated / protected it(Guardsman).

Mark asks…

Can I put Resolve carpet cleaner on a microfiber couch with pet urine stain?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

If it's microfiber, you can probably wash it. Here's a similar question with tons of answers about how to clean microfiber couches.

If none of those work for you, sure, I'd try resolve on my own couch. Make sure you test a small less visible area before you go all out on the stain, though.

Where can I get a dryer vent cleaned?

Is there a company to call?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Why not do it yourself?

Disconnect the hose from the back of the dryer and from the outside vent, toss it into the garbage and attach the new dryer vent hose with new wire ties or hose clamps. Total cost about $10.00. If you call someone in to do it, they will charge you parts and labour - minimum 4 hour call out for labour @ $20.00-$80.00/hour plus marked up parts at $20.00.

$10.00 and one hour of your time if you do it, $100.00 and about 15 minutes if you call in a professional.

It's your call.

William asks…

What is the best way to clean out dryer vent?

The dryer vent in my house is becoming clogged. It does not exit the house directly above the dryer, it travels though the drop ceiling in my basement about 15 to 20 feet before venting outside. I have noticed a lot of lint when I cleaned out the flex pipe going up out of the dryer and even some lint at the exit point outside.

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

You do not want to flush your dryer vent ( im guessing with water ). It should remain as dry as possible. Take the vent loose at dryer, then you can take a leaf blower and clear the flex vent. Should remove all the lint build up. If not then find the mid point of the flex vent and cut it in half, now you can clean it from both ends..To put it back together get a 4" x 8" piece of duct pipe. 4" round by 8" long. Get two dryer clamps and piece the two halfs of the flex vent you cut back together. Should solve all your problems

Charles asks…

What is the best way to clean/clear clogged lint from laundry dryer vent?

We have a new dryer and it works well. Problem is dryer could do better if the vent is clean from lint. Need advise on the best method to clean the vent. Or, is it better to have contrator to do it?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Does it exit the building directly behind your drier - or not.
If so you could use a toilet brush. If not you may wind up blocking the vent system further. You might try a wet/dry Vacuum with out attachments- just the hose

Richard asks…

How often do you clean your dryer vent?

This is the cleaning that involves hiring a professional or disconnecting the hose and using a long brush to clean.
I don't mean cleaning the lint out of the lint trap. I mean something like: http://www.chimkc.com/dryerventcl.htm

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

As a general rule the vent should be cleaned out twice a year. If you incorporate the cleaning of the vent with getting ready for the winter and getting ready for the summer you will not neglect cleaning out the dryer vent and it will keep the dryer drying as efficiently as possible and also keep the utility bills to a minimum.

Mark asks…

how do i clean the dryer vent?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

It doesn't really sound like a vent problem so much as your dryer belt or drum. I would call an appliance repairman.

Can you use a carpet cleaner on a ultrasuede couch?

I have a light tan ultra suede couchh that needs a good cleaning. Can I use a carpet cleaner on it? Does anyone know the approx dry time?
I was planning on using like a carpet cleaner machine.
If that won't work any other suggestions?
UGH! I just started cleaning with water and dish soap on the most noticeable spots. Will it dry fine or did I just ruin my couch?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

If you use anything liquid, you will be left with water marks that are nearly impossible to remove. You can, however, use dry carpet cleaning granules which will remove both dirt and grime as well as stains. Resolve and Capture both make them. Simply apply, agitate with a suede or soft brush, leave it sit on the surface for 30 minutes and then vacuum. There is not enough moisture in them to cause damage.

Mandy asks…

Can you use bleach in a carpet cleaner?

I have a carpet cleaner & I was wondering if instead of putting the cleaner in it to clean my bedroom carpets if I could use just bleach w/ the hott water? My carpets are almost a white color but are stained pretty bad thanx to a dog we used to have. I was wanting to clean it all & sanatize it & thought that would be a good wayy to do it.. Let me know what everyone thinks. Thanx!

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Hi

I am a carpet cleaner, so I can answer this one for you...

NO !!!

Your white carpet is not naturally white, it is died white. If you use bleach then it may turn green, or worse. It may look ok for a week or so but it will destroy your carpet. We sometimes use hydrogen peroxide, which is like bleach, but only safe if highly diluted.

Here is how to remove the stains...

Remember, staining is influenced by many factors, and no carpet is completely stain proof. Always test any detergent on an inconspicuous area of carpet prior to treating a stain. Use natural detergents at recommended dilution ratios. Gently scrape up or blot up any access prior to treatment. Never rub or scrub, this will make the stain worse. Do not over wet into the carpets backing materials, this can cause water stains. Do not use inappropriate detergents on carpets or upholstery i.e. Washing up liquid, wash powders, household bleach, disinfectants etc.Always work from the outside of the stain inward to avoid spreading. Always apply the cleaning fluid to the absorbent spotting material, not directly onto the carpet or fabric. Keep the fabric or carpet as dry as possible to prevent water stains.
Greasy Stains. Chocolate, Butter, Lipstick, some Oily Food stains, some Ink. Apply small quantity of Surgical spirit to some cotton wool or Q-tip. Using the lightly soaked cotton wool apply to the edges of the stain working inwards to the centre. Gently press (Blot) either Terry towel, or plain white kitchen towel, and repeat as necessary until the stain no longer transfers. Do not allow penetration into the back of carpeting or foam filling materials! Some fabrics may darken initially during this process. Using a detergent solution on cotton wool, dampen the area and follow up by blotting with kitchen roll or terry towel. Dry, using hair dryer, continually moving over the damp area. This will help to prevent water marking
Water Based Stains. Tea, Coffee, Fruit juices, Wine, some Basic Food stains. Soak up immediately using absorbent material or suck up with a wet pick up vacuum. What is the best reasonably priced carpet cleaner?

I have two dogs and two young boys who track in lots of dirt, spill things and a puppy who still has accidents from time to time. I usually have my carpets cleaned professionally, but I would like to try to save a little money and do it myself. Any recommendations on a good carpet cleaner?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

I have a Hoover steam cleaner and I like it but, I really believe that once we clean our carpets ourselves with any of the commercial 'shampoos' for carpets that they seem to attract more dirt and stains. When carpeting is new, it has scotch guard or other product on it to help prevent stains and repel dirt. Once we shampoo the carpet, we remove some or all of that protectant.

I like Woolite shampoo for steam cleaners the best but with pets, I use many of the different products used that is supposed to be more efficient at removing pet odors.

What is the best good value carpet cleaner for sale at the moment?

I want to clean my beige carpets to get them back to new, after my pup decided to go in front of the TV while i wasnt looking. Can anyone recommend a good carpet cleaner?
Thanks

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

I purchased the Vax Rapide 027PT XL pro for my carpets as my dog has weed on there and has also been out in the garden and has come in with mud all over her.

I found that nothing else would work as good as this.

The carpet cleaner cost me £170.00 and it is like a hoover although it sprays the solution onto your carpet (you don't have to mix it yourself it's just so simple) and it cleans your room in minutes.

I would highly suggest that you get one because as you puppy grows older he/she will still be bringing in muck from the garden or outside and especially having a beige carpet it is definitely a good investment.

The solution for it is easy to find and is very cheap so really it is just the initial cost of the actual carpet cleaner itself.

Hope i helped.x.

How do I safely use vinegar in a carpet cleaner ?

I never trusted people who say they clean with vinegar. I tried it on my carpet and it amazingly removed a high traffic stain.
Can I use it in a carpet cleaner ? Carpet washer ?

Carpet Cleaner Dude answers:

Vinegar is safe for cleaning. You can use it to clean out coffee makers. You can add it to your laundry to eliminate odors. I would imagine you can use it in your carpet cleaner, but I would mix it half and half with water. I use a water/vinegar mixture in a spray bottle to help with pet odors. Try going to Google and type in Cleaning with Vinegar. You'll probably find all sorts of hints there.
